Session:Session 41-The Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation Variability and Its Climatic Impacts

Abstract
The Atlantic meridional overturning circulation (AMOC) is a crucial part of the global climate system, for which it transports heat and freshwater northwards and leads the heat redistribution from low to high latitude in the North Atlantic. However, the interannual to decadal variability in the subpolar AMOC is still not clear mainly due to the lack of long-term AMOC observations. In this work, we reconstruct the subpolar AMOC changes since the 1990s based on satellite and hydrographic data. Based on the reconstructions, we will analyze the observed overturning variability at the interannual to decadal time scales and further discuss possible underlying mechanisms.
