For protecting and safely utilizing offshore water resources and respond to sudden pollution accidents or harmful algal blooms, it is necessary to develop low-cost detection devices that can automatically detect multiple water quality parameters. Such a device should include automatic sampling, detection, remote control, and data transmission modules. However, the usual water quality testing device adopts a pump-valve sampling unit, which has high cost, is not easy to clean thoroughly and is easy to introduce cross-contamination. In this paper, a low-cost automatic water quality detection device is proposed, which adopts a chain structure to assemble a series of water sample collection and detection chambers, each of which includes multiple separated units. These units detect water quality through optical approaches and can achieve remote control and data transmission. The merits of the device include no pump and valve structure, the ability to achieve automatic multi-parameter water quality detection, no cross contamination, miniaturization, and low cost.
