The coastal zone, serving as a transitional area connecting land and ocean, possesses unique ecological value. Sandy coasts attract much attention for their unique natural scenery and suitable leisure environment, but disordered human activities often lead to increased erosion. Haiyang city, located in Yantai of Shandong province, has excellent sandy coastal resources and is famous for its Wanmi beach, but the beach has suffered varying degrees of erosion in recent years. Based on the data of UAV photography and typical profiles survey in the main area of Wanmi beach in recent 8 years, this study quantified the annual beach erosion variation, clarified the erosion characteristics and its changes, and combined with the types of human activities, revealed the erosion law of the main area of Wanmi beach. The result shows that the eastern survey area is in weak erosion, and the beach is affected by the reduced sand supply. The east and west sides of the middle survey area are in erosion, but both sides of Yangjiaopan estuary have been silted up significantly in recent years, especially in 2021-2023, and the overall siltation volume reached 90352.91 m3. The western survey area is more affected by the surrounding beach farming activities, and the beach surface erosion and siltation occur in each other. Therefore, the main area of Wanmi beach except the Yangjiaopan estuary sea area, most of the beach is in erosion.
