In recent years, China has been facing the challenge of meeting dual carbon targets: achieving carbon peak by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060. Carbon neutrality involves both natural and artificial carbon sequestration processes, with the ocean playing a crucial role in the future. This presentation outlines six pathways toward for achieving carbon neutrality through marine organisms: biological pumps, coastal blue carbon, fisheries carbon sink, microbial carbon pump, artificial carbon sink in marine ecosystems, and reducing estuary pollution to increase carbon sinks. The report highlights key research areas in China related to carbon neutrality in marine organisms.
